And don’t miss the highly practical pre-conference workshop:
Will Europe’s Payments Services Directive and SEPA Work?
Tuesday 4th November 2008
The Payment Services Directive (PSD) and changes implemented by the banks for a Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) hail a bright new and bold landscape for an integrated European financial marketplace. The aim of these changes is to enable corporates to enjoy pan-European financial management and treasury operations, citizens to enjoy cross-border money movements as easily and simply as domestic payments, and for authorities to realise up to €100 billion per year in efficiencies thanks to the evolution from paper payments to electronic infrastructures. SEPA Credit Transfers (SCT) are already here, and SEPA Direct Debits (SDD) are on the way in November 2009, as is the implementation of the PSD. So all of this is great news? Yes, but some professionals in the markets are saying the PSD is unworkable, SEPA’s investments will never be recouped and that Europe’s plans for an integrated market are mistaken. What is the truth and where are we now in this critical change programme for all of Europe’s banks and payments practitioners.
This workshop will answer the critical questions outstanding in the markets today:
- What are the flaws in the PSD
- When are the critical milestones for the implementation of these new systems?
- Who are the protagonists and doomsayers?
- Which banks will be winners and losers?
The workshop will conclude with a vision for European payments after the dust has settled.
